Buhl Bushong Top Complete! Boom! from Humble Quilts

Here is my completed Buhl Bushong quilt top! I pieced a backing while at my sewing retreat last weekend and it is now on its way to Sharon, Grass Roots Quilting, for her to work some magic.

The overall size is about 87" square. The Virginia Quilt Museum reproduced this quilt from one in their collection. They really did an awesome and accurate job. The original antique is from 1855. Get more info HERE

JoAnn from Quilters Coop sent me some photos of fabrics after I showed her the quilt top and told her I was looking for backing. Thank ...

NEW PATTERN Fig Leaf and Flowers from Collector with a Needle

Pattern Cover
We are pleased to announce our new appliqué quilt pattern, Fig Leaf and Flowers.

The pattern is a reproduction of a 19th century quilt quilt in our collection.   The quilt finishes at 80" square.  The original quilt is not perfectly aligned by today's standards - but the pattern is!  The outer edge has a bit of a wave - the pattern does not.

For now, it is a digital download only, available on the pattern page here and on our Etsy shop.  It is designed to print on your home printer - no enlargements needed.  The full size pattern includes ...

Projects From Stitching Friends from Collector with a Needle

Ferns and Berries - Florence Block 1
Checking in with my stitching friends!
Wishing you all the best, thinking of you.

A couple stitching friends sent me photos of their current work and gave me permission to share with you.

Florence shared her Ferns and Berries project.  She's using a small reproduction indigo print with red berries and reverse applique.

For the berry stems, she's using an embroidered chain stitch.

Antique Quilt from our collection

This is our original - from our pattern cover.

The antique quilt is very heavily hand quilted with detailed motifs.

The original had embroidered stems ...

Great Plains Quilt AKA Spencer Museum Quilt from Humble Quilts

The Spencer Museum Quilt is done!

I'm actually calling it the Great Plains Quilt since the blocks are from old quilts documented in Kansas.

My friend Kathy in Ohio quilted it. Contact  her at this address if you need any quilting done. mckat@roadrunner.com

That isn't a good photo but you can see it was pieced as usual.

It was really nice to bring a little spring indoors.

I love the little feathers she added.

The old quilts that the blocks were designed from are in this book. You can read my post about it HERE.

Buhl Bushong Update and Mardi Gras from Humble Quilts

It is so hard to get a good photo of the long border. I tried outside but it was too breezy.  The lower one is the newest finish.
I took this late last night so the color looks so weird. It really isn't pink!

There will be a bud in the corner of this block.

I'm in a local hiking group and we went out for a Fat Tuesday Mardi Gras hike!

Have a great weekend!

Thanks you for your sweet comments on the bird blocks. I'm having a blast making them!

Radical Rose from Collector with a Needle

Original Quilt from our Collection
We love seeing quilters making projects with our patterns.
Our 'Radical Rose' has been a popular pattern for us.
One of my favorite things is seeing the fabric selections, and how they add their own personal choices.
Since we published the pattern, a few blocks and one similar quilt have turned up.  They appear to be "newer" and have the look of a "traced" pattern where the shapes and lines are thinker and less pronounced.  We are proud of the accuracy of our pattern to the 19th century original in our collection.
We also include ...

Cousin's Walk Bird Sampler from Humble Quilts

I've got a few more bird blocks completed on my Cousin's Walk Sampler.

I'm enjoying finding some prints to fussy cut on the flowers so I don't have to make a center for each one.

I'm going to make it a terrific week- what about you?

Buhl Bushong Border 1 from Humble Quilts

I actually have no clue where the name of this quilt comes from, only that Mary pressured me to indulge! LOL (She didn't really have to pressure too hard)
I didn't have to look too far for the name of the quilt- terrific history of the quilt HERE.

I am finally done with my first border.

Here is the amazing quilt, which the pattern is being published by Virginia Quilt Museum. You can see for yourself at the link HERE.

I am behind, but have ordered red for the points and will start on the left border soon ...

Broderie Perse Exhibit and Almost Amish winner! from Humble Quilts

First, what is Broderie Perse?
In French "broderie perse" means Persian embroidery, but it also came to refer to the lovely applique of printed chintz flowers and other motifs onto a solid fabric. These exquisite quilts have been made since the 1700s.
A good explanation of the history of it can be found HERE at womenfolk.com

Cynthia Collier proposed to Quilts, inc an exhibit of currently made Broderie Perse quilts from a wide variety of talented women.
They accepted and it was one of the highlights of the International Quilt Fest this month.

Such an elegant block. One of ...

Dressing a Canopy Doll Bed from Collector with a Needle

I love canopy beds.

I have one in the guest room with a hand tied canopy.
Guests love it too.

I have a few canopy doll beds that need bedding so when I found this one - I almost didn't get it.

How many more projects do I need to add to the list?
I justified it because I thought I had a few doll quilts at home that could be used to dress it out.

I got it and I'm glad I did.

It did not look like this when I got it.
